by Chris Dawson BA, MSc (Ed. Management), D. Hyp., Diploma in PE from Loughborough College (1st Class Hons.)

Develop A Winner's Mind (Book 1)

This book is for teenagers, young sports people, their coaches and parents. “Sport is played with the body. But the mind must be in gear.”

Developing the mental skills alongside the physical is essential to fulfilling potential and becoming a winner. This is the book that will take you there.

Develop a Winner’s Mind is a must-read for young sportspeople and their parents and coaches. It will help them build mental strength step by step in a relaxed yet powerful way. The book is a clear and fun introduction to creating a winning mindset and boosting performance. Accessible and practical, it draws on approaches from modern psychology, including neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and mindfulness. In an age-appropriate way, Develop a Winner’s Mind offers approaches and techniques that will guide young people toward peak performance, whatever their sport and help them take their game from ordinary to extraordinary!

Foreword

I’ve devoted my whole life to football. I played professionally for Manchester City, worked as a qualified physiotherapist across all professional divisions, and gained a vast amount of experience working for the Premier League in support of children, young adults, and staff within the professional game.

Having read ‘Develop a Winner’s Mind’, I believe this book should be the ultimate guide for every young person and parent as they embark on the journey into the exciting world of team sports. The tips, tools, and techniques are easy to follow, can be used at any time, and could be extremely effective as you strive to be the best version of yourself.

The book is full of quotes from amazing people in sport, who have developed their own unique ways of winning, of dealing with setbacks, and all without losing their love of sport.

It highlights the importance of training our minds as well as our bodies, to recognise that how we feel affects how we think and behave, and that there is success in losing, not just in winning.

Essentially, being human and loving ourselves, is the most important first step.
